Jermaine Young-Bushay, professionally known as Jermaine Young, is a London-based actor, self-taught filmmaker and the founder of Caribbeans Connects — a platform created to connect Caribbean and diaspora creatives across talent, casting, jobs, events, media and culture. Jermaine’s journey into the creative industry began after leaving his job at EE and stepping onto a film set as an extra. What started as a new direction quickly became a calling. His first major acting job was a lead role in a Theraflu commercial in 2019, opening the door to further work across television, commercials, film and branded campaigns.
Since then, Jermaine has worked across a wide range of UK television commercials and screen projects, with credits connected to brands and productions including BMW, Netflix’s Half Bad, where he appeared as Lennox, and Steve McQueen’s acclaimed Small Axe anthology. His role in Small Axe was especially personal. As a first-generation descendant of the Windrush generation, with parents from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the story of Caribbean people in Britain is not just history to Jermaine — it is family, identity, and lived experience. The Lovers Rock world within Small Axe also carried a deeper connection, as Jermaine’s father, Clement “Clem” Bushay, is recognised as one of the pioneers of UK lovers rock and the founder of Bushays Records.
Growing up around music, records, and Caribbean culture shaped Jermaine’s understanding of legacy. He witnessed his father’s work first-hand — from producing music to physically going out and selling records and CDs. That independent spirit, cultural pride, and determination became part of Jermaine’s own creative foundation. Over time, Jermaine expanded from acting into filmmaking and media production. Largely self-taught, he developed his skills behind the camera later in his career, using film to tell stories about Caribbean people, artists, communities, and culture.
Caribbeans Connects was created from that same mission: to give Caribbean creatives a platform where they can be seen, discovered, and connected. The platform supports actors, models, musicians, filmmakers, presenters, dancers, content creators, and creative professionals across the UK, the Caribbean, and the wider diaspora. Through Caribbeans Connects, Jermaine continues to build a bridge between generations — from Windrush heritage and lovers rock history to today’s emerging Caribbean talent. His work brings together acting, media, music, community storytelling, and digital networking, with one clear purpose: to help Caribbean creatives gain visibility, opportunity, and connection.
Today, Jermaine Young-Bushay continues to work as an actor, filmmaker, and founder, using his experience in front of and behind the camera to grow Caribbeans Connects into a global home for Caribbean creativity.
